Is TanZibar Tans safe?
YES! According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the most effective products available are sunless or self-tanning products that contain dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as the active ingredient. DHA has been used in cosmetic preparations for almost 30 years and was listed with the FDA in 1973. It is declared safe and suitable for use in cosmetics and drugs used to color the skin. DHA is derived from glycerin (vegetable origin), which is a commonly used cosmetic and food ingredient. DHA is not absorbed into the body and poses no possibility of toxicity.

What if a person normally can't get very tan?
A person CAN get a sunless tan even if they can't get a real tan. TanZibar Tan does not need a person's melanocytes to be in working order. Can a person UV tan on top of an TanZibar Tan?
Of course! But just remember that the TanZibar Tans does not provide any sunscreen protection, so you should apply sunscreen accordingly. With an TanZibar Tan Airbrush Tan, your skin will appear tan, even though it's not. This is an artificial tan. There is no Sun Protection Factor (SPF) in the TanZibar Tan Airbrush Tan, so your skin is still exposed and vulnerable to the sun. If you choose to expose your skin to UV rays either from the sun or a tanning bed, it is important to use a lotion with SPF to protect you from the sun's harmful rays.

Normally I freckle in the sun... will TanZibar Tan cause freckles?
No. TanZibar Tans tanning solutions will not cause more freckles. In fact, in most cases, freckles and blemishes will become LESS obvious because the lighter skin areas will darken and reduce the color differential between these areas and the rest of the skin.

Why isn't there any SPF in TanZibar Tan Airbrush Tans?
Applied correctly, the protection in any sun block will at most last 4-8 hours. Since TanZibar Tan Airbrush Tans lasts for 5-7 days (up to 10 for some people), adding SPF would not provide protection for the life of your tan and could be misleading. TanZibar Tans tanning solutions and body care products do not contain a sunscreen and do not protect against sunburn. Repeated exposure of unprotected skin while UV tanning may increase the risk of skin aging, skin cancer and other harmful effects to the skin even if you do not burn.

Will a TanZibar Tan cover up or harm my tattoos?
No. TanZibar Tans solutions will not harm tattoos, but if you have yellow or light tones, it can temporarily darken the color a bit, until your TanZibar Tan fades. If you don't want that to happen, just cover the tattoo lightly with moisturizer lotion BEFORE your TanZibar Tan.

How long after the application can I go in water or sweat?
We recommend about 8 hours. Sunless tan longevity varies from person to person and according to your lifestyle. Long exposure to water will fade your TanZibar Tan. Your outer cells will start to soak up water, which dilutes the effect of the tan. The longer you are in the water, the lighter your tan will get. Having an TanZibar Tan weekly maintenance tan allows the tan to saturate the skin better. The tan will then hold up longer in water. Be sure to moisturize every day, this helps maintain the tan.

Can pregnant or nursing mothers get an TanZibar Tan?
The concern some doctors have is over whether or not the active ingredient (DHA) is able to enter the blood stream; the indications are that it cannot. DHA only penetrates the outtermost of the skin. However, if the client is still concerned they should consult their physician first. FYI: DHA has been used as a cosmetic ingredient in the United States since 1960 and no problems have ever been reported concerning DHA penetrating the skin, or causing problems during pregnancy.

Will TanZibar Tan solution stain my pajamas or sheets?
The color guide will wash off your skin after your first post-tan shower. Many have reported that the Oxy cleaning products, like Clorox's non-bleach Oxygen Action, do a great job. FYI: two commonly reported causes of the color guide coming off are both on bed sheets — excess sweat from menopausal hot flashes and those who drool on their own face while they sleep.

Why do I need an exfoliator — why can't I use a loofa or shower puff?
Using an exfoliator insures smoother softer skin for the TanZibar Tan airbrush tan application, resulting in an even and longer lasting tan. If you do not use an exfoliator, you will be tanning skin that is about to fall off and your tan will disappear more quickly. Loofas and puffs do not conform to the body and will result in an uneven exfoliation and can create a "zebra" look to your TanZibar Tan airbrush tan.
